13-17 Jr. Barrel Racing
The Barrel Racing event is a fan favorite! It showcases the skill and athleticism of the rider as well as the incredible speed of the American Quarter Horse. In this thrilling event, a cowgirl charges into the arena at full speed on a horse racing at about 43 miles per hour (70 km/h).
12 & Under Jr. Barrel Racing
Upon entering, she crosses a timer line that activates an electronic sensor to start the clock and track the speed of her run. The rider then navigates a cloverleaf pattern around three steel barrels before sprinting out of the arena, crossing the sensor again to stop the clock and finish the run. If a barrel is knocked over, a 5-second penalty is added. The fast pace, excitement, and energy of the crowd make this event incredibly exhilarating!

- Buckin H Rodeo performance, gates open at 5:30 PM, rodeo at 7 PM
Thursday, July 24
- Girls Breakaway Jackpot put on by Happy J Ranch – 10 AM
- Basin HS Rodeo Team BBQ/Pie Auction/Street Dance moved to Cowboy Poetry Gathering in October
- 11th Annual Phil Brevik/Melvin Haga Memorial TR Jackpot – Buffalo Arena, enter at 8 AM and Rope at 9 AM
Friday, July 25
- Slack at 8 AM
- 1st Rodeo Performance – Military/First Responders Appreciation – 7 PM
- Vitalant Blood Drive- All day- You don’t need an appointment – but you can make one if you want to guarantee a time. Come give the Gift of Life!
Saturday, July 26
- Durango Devo/DFD Kids Bicycle Rodeo, 10 AM – 3 PM, La Plata County Fairgrounds parking lots
